We do not accept deposits on tenrecs until our pre-adoption questionnaire form has been filled out, sent to us, and approved by us. Our deposit fee is $75.00 to reserve a tenrec. The deposit fee is not an additional cost, it is included in the cost of the tenrec. So, the remaining amount of the tenrec after the deposit is what will be paid at pickup (we only accept Paypal for deposits, & cash or Paypal at pickup to pay the remaining balance of the tenrec). We don’t have a paid waitlist due to tenrec breeding being so unpredictable. Babies will be available for deposit around 2-3 weeks old if not wanting a DNA sexed baby, for DNA sexed babies they will be available for deposit once the test results come back at around 6 weeks. Invoices for deposits must be paid within 48 hours of receiving them unless otherwise arranged, if not paid within 48 hours the tenrec will be made available again. Please allow 24-48 hours for us to review and respond to your submitted questionnaire. Thank you for your patience.

***If you currently own a tenrec, we will not adopt out a tenrec to you that is of the opposite sex of the tenrec you currently have. We just don’t feel comfortable putting our animals in that kind of situation. Accidental breeding/ litters are just too big a risk when keeping opposite sex animals. We have a very strict no breeding policy on all of our animals we adopt out because we do not want our animals bred without our consent, breeding is dangerous & you can lose the animal & the offspring, we don’t want our animals we adopt to be exposed to those risks. All the animals we adopt out are pet ONLY, & don’t come with breeding rights. So if you currently own a male please get another male, if you currently own a female please get another female.**

Tenrecs must have a DNA test to confirm their sex. A tenrec’s sex is not visible to the naked eye like other animals because their reproductive body parts are all internal. DNA test results take approximately 4-6 weeks to arrive because the testing is done in the Czech Republic.

Do you have an exotics veterinarian in your area that treat tenrecs? *

Most exotic vets don't know much about tenrecs & may never have met one. But, as long as they're willing to do research to learn abou them, it's okay to use a vet with minimal knowledge on tenrecs.*

What type of cage, wheel, cage accessories, bedding & heat source are you planning on using for the tenrec? (Please be specific & include size/dimensions, brands, etc) *

**We require a photo/video to be sent to us of the cage setup & the heat source set up you plan to use for the tenrec, prior to pickup. The cage setup & heat setup MUST be approved by us before we will allow the tenrec to go home, as we want to make sure that the setups you plan to use are tenrec safe & appropriate. We want to make assure that our tenrecs will be safe & happy in their new home. We, also, need to be able to make sure that your heating setup is set up properly, that you have all the necessary items for the setup, that everything is working, & that the heat source is keeping the cage at a steady temp. between 72-80F before you take your tenrec home. If the tenrecs cage already stays around 72F without a heat source than you can do without one, but we do advise that you always have a heat source just in case it is needed. If the ambient air temperature of the cage stays below 72F, we do require our adopters to have a heat source.*

*We highly recommend you having a heat source for your tenrec.

**We do offer complete cage setups. We offer a single unit Zen Habitats Enclosure (4'x2'x2') cage full setup for $550 without a heat setup & $600 with a heat setup. All cage setups must be paid in full at least 14 days prior to pickup for setups without a heat setup, & 21 days prior to pickup for setups with a heat setup. Our cage setups are made to order--we don’t keep all items on hand so the cages are put together as we get orders for them.** (If you choose to get a cage setup without a heat setup from us, you will be required to still show photo/video proof of having one & it working if the cages ambient air temperature stays below 72F).**

**We must know & approve the kibble you want to feed prior to pickup.* Your new tenrec will go home with a week supply of our food mix so you can slowly transition them to their new food from their current food if you won’t be using the food we feed our tenrecs. All of our tenrecs come with a take home pack that includes a week supply of our kibble (if not intending on feeding the kibble we use), 1 snuggle sack, & a small carrier. (The take home pack is included with the tenrec, it’s not an added cost).

***Quill Valley Exotics reserves the rights to make any changes to this contract & any other written policies without notice at any time, & to refuse service to anyone should we see fit. Any animal from us that is neglected/abused or breech of contract occurred with, will be removed from the buyers care without notice & legal action will be taken if necessary (at the buyers expense). SHIPPING & LEGALITY: We do provide ground shipping in the conterminous United States, but some areas, depending on the distance may be an increase in the $175 fee. (the fee's amount depends on the distance, we’re not always available to do transports. Only if our schedule is open when transport would be needed). Transport distance is not to exceed 300 miles unless previously discussed. However, we typically will refer you to a breeder more local to you, in order to avoid any undue stress for the tenrecs from transporting them long distances. **We do not sell to residents of areas where tenrecs are illegal to own.** Tenrecs are illegal in Pennsylvania, the 5 boroughs of New York City (they’re legal in the rest of NY), Washington D.C., California, Hawaii, Arizona, Georgia, Massachusetts (can own with an educational program permit like for educational programs at zoos), Montana (restricted but not fully illegal), & Oregon. Please make sure to always check your cities/towns ordinances because some cities/towns have laws regarding some animals that differ from the states laws & could have hedgehogs as illegal to own in the city/town but are legal to own elsewhere in the state (an example of this is NY, they’re illegal in NYC but legal in the rest of NY). We do not guarantee a timeline by which you will receive a tenrec, as breeding does not always go according to plan.

**At time of pickup we require the adopter to bring a valid driver's license with them, we also require that all parties who are 18 years or older sign our Assumption of Risk Waiver before being allowed to handle any of our animals & also have a valid drivers license with them, we will need to take a copy of all parties 18 years or older drivers licenses to attach them to the Assumption of Risk Waivers to prove the parties signing the Waiver are who they say they are. I will email you copies of everything signed in person so you also have record of it.
